With summer quickly approaching, the bar scene is changing. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been looking forward to this since last summer; wreaking havoc outdoors at your favorite bar whose patio has been closed for the past nine months. Last summer I spent every weekend at a handful of places and throughout the winter, while I discovered my favorite indoor bar, nothing compares to being outside. That said, if you haven’t had the outdoor bar experience, you may be stumped on what to wear. At all times, I am begging my friends to wear dresses with me as they are the most comfortable, easiest to go to the bathroom in, and require the least amount of thought. Wearing a dress to the bar makes me feel the most confident and while I know investing in a million different dresses for every weekend is not in everyone's budget, I am going to talk about a staple: the little black dress.
This entire past summer if you saw me out, 9/10 times, I was wearing a dress. Even more than that, I can guarantee you it was most likely a black dress. It got to the point that my cousin that I would go out with told me no more buying and wearing black dresses. So I would say that I am a pro at picking out the perfect black dress to wear to the bar. My favorite styles are a skin tight mini dress as well as a slip dress. I got my mini dress from Windsor and I continue to wear it all the time. Wearing it with sneakers makes it look more casual and you can wear it a million times over because it is such a staple, nighttime, piece of clothing. As for my black slip dress, I have worn it both during the day as well as at night and it continues to be THE main staple in my closet. I got mine at the thrift store, it was a floor length dress that I turned into a mini dress (thanks mom!) and I have worn it a countless number of times. Whether it be to go out for lunch, to go shopping, or literally to wear to the bar at night, I have done it all.
I have a crazy amount of dresses to wear out during the summer and the best part is that the majority of them can be worn day-to-night. My other staple to go with the dress is a little black bag and a pair of black shoes. A black purse that you can bring out to the bar does not have to be that big. It should fit your wallet, phone, lip gloss, gum, and maybe a tampon, all of the essentials! I got my bar purse from an estate sale for $5 and it matches every outfit I wear. As for the black shoes, I have two staples. For the wintertime it is a pair of black boots. And for the summer, a pair of black converse. Wearing light color shoes is setting you up for disaster because the bar is dirty. People are stepping on your feet and spilling drinks, not a brilliant idea. I would suggest basic black converse because they are comfortable, cute, and easy to clean. Just an all black ensemble, basically. These are all staple pieces that you can utilize during the day or night, making them the perfect bar set for your fun weekend out!
