Growing up in Upstate New York, I am no stranger to the Saratoga Race Track. If there’s nothing to do on a weekend, every July, the track is always there. If you’re an out-of-towner making your way here, you may be lost on what to wear. It seems pretty straightforward, you can break out the fascinator and long dress, but fashion is ever-evolving and there are so many things to do after the track, you want a versatile outfit to go from day to night.
When going to the track, everyone likes to pull out all the stops and dress to impress. You’ll see guys in suits, sometimes printed, and so many women in sleek outfits donned with a fascinator atop their heads. If you’re feeling unprepared, there are so many boutiques and shops littered down Broadway that sell all of your track necessities. From the fascinator on your head to the shoes on your feet and everything in between, there are so many last-minute options if you’re feeling unready to hit the Saratoga Race Track.
Step one is figuring out the clothes you are going to wear. Usually, the dress is the most straightforward part of your track attire. Luckily, the maxi style is in right now, so finding a plethora of options will not be difficult. Even better, materials such as satin and silk are also very trendy right now. These light and airy materials are perfect for summer; they’ll keep you cool and comfortable in the outdoor heat. As for prints and patterns, the world truly is your oyster. Many people opt for lighter colors, maybe a floral print, to make their attire seem that much fancier. While you can always dress more casually (depending on where you sit) getting dressed up with your friends is one of the best parts of going to the track.

If you’re not into the maxi vibe, you can always wear a shorter dress, just not too short, Soundbar doesn’t open until 9. Sundresses and rompers are one and the same and they are a perfect option for your track outing. There are so many flowy and flattering rompers you can dress up or down and realistically take from day to night. Rompers are also so comfortable because they have built-in shorts. There is easy mobility and since it is also a shorter length, you won’t have to change before going to the bars after.

To go with your base outfit, accessories are such an important part. As previously mentioned, fascinators are the stereotypical track accessory. They sell them up and down Broadway at every boutique and if you forget to buy one before you get there, you’re in luck because they sell them at the track too. Personally, I don’t participate in the fascinator agenda. But accessories can mean your necklaces, bracelets, earrings and your purse. If you’re struggling with jewelry to wear and you’re in a time crunch, Lola Saratoga has so many options at an array of prices. They always have what’s trendy, I just bought the cutest bangle from there, and it’s perfect because the store is right on Broadway.
No matter what you wear to the track, you’ll have a good time. It’s important to note that there is a dress code, and all of what I mentioned follows it, but you must be comfortable with what you’re wearing. Nothing is more fun than getting dressed up and spending the day doing an activity with your friends. The track is summer-long entertainment and whether you’re going just to watch the horses, drink overpriced track wine, or gamble to win big, dressing to impress will make your excursion that much better.
